Finally, we are in my favorite time of the year. I absolutely love the cold weather and the fashion trends that it brings with it. For everyone else who enjoys getting nice and cozy under mountains of blankets or curling up in your favorite pajamas to read a good book by the fireplace, you probably know exactly what I am talking about.
That’s right: we have finally gotten to sweater weather. It’s so famous at this point that there are even pop songs written about it! What is the big deal, though?
Have you ever tried wearing a sweater during the warmer months? Talk about stifling. However, the chilly breeze gives us the perfect opportunity to put on our favorite ones. If you are curious about what styles seem to be popular right now, this is the article for you!
Pastels
As you can see in this article, it appears as though pale pastel colors are once again ruling this winter season. Baby pink and baby blue seem to be the most popular selections amongst designers, but mint and cream are also some great options. Really, the world is your oyster here, since you can apply this trend to coats and hoodies as well as sweaters!
Of course, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Do not worry if that is the case. Personally, I have always been a fan of more muted tones like gray or browns. Express yourself in what you wear, you don’t have to conform!
Paired with Long Skirts
This is another instance of returning to the classics, which is a huge theme in fashion trends right now. Long skirts were out of style for a long time, but as we move towards more retro or traditional looks, they have been “rediscovered.” You can go here to see some fun examples of this pairing, which I find quite comfortable.
Perhaps the most appealing part about it is that while it is super comfortable, it is also appropriate for any professional setting as well! It is hard to go wrong with a chunky turtleneck or even a slight v neck knit paired with a long skirt.
Fluorescents
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum to our first entry here, we have fluorescents. I have been noticing a lot of green this season, and this can be applied to this type of palette as well. Think of highlighters or even crossing guard uniforms – it is back in style, folks. Your favorite types of knits can be found in these colors, of course.
Oversized
Oversized and baggy sweaters are a personal favorite of mine. Looking at blogs like this one, https://www.bustle.com/style/winter-fashion-trends-2023, you can see that they are making yet another comeback. You certainly will not catch me complaining about it!
After all, it is definitely one of the most comfortable things to wear. Pair it with some of our former entries like a long skirt or with a nice pastel color, and you have an easy and breezy outfit that is fit for the winter weather. Talk about combining style with convenience!
Unique Shoes
Another return to form for this industry is the fact that unique shoes seem to be coming back around. While we have experienced a push towards wearing the same tennis shoes or sneakers as everyone else for the past few years, it appears that this winter that is finally changing.
Thigh high boots are one that I find interesting. If it is super cold out, you can of course wear them beneath a skirt or over something like skinny jeans, tights, or leggings. Pair that with a big sweater and it is definitely a cute outfit. However, I think that the other type that is flying hot off the shelves right now will probably be more up the alley of the general public.
Platform loafers are not exactly something that I would have wanted to add to my closet even just a year ago. However, seeing all of the celebrities that have been pulling them off lately has kind of changed my tune. I am still hesitant because of how large my shoe size is, but I think that a large variety of women could easily make them work.
At the End of the Day, though…
Undeniably, current fads are super fun to talk about and discuss. However, we should not let them rule over our entire lives and wardrobes. Sometimes, it is better to go with some of the staples for a professional’s closet. After all, trends really are just that…trends. Eventually, they fade into the next one.
So, when you are looking at sweaters to add to your collection this winter, strive for a balance between those two worlds. It is totally fine to get a few pieces that are super trendy, of course. In fact, the nice thing about the color variations is that even if they fall into what is currently popular, it is not like the garment will ever stop being practical.
With all of this in mind, go out there and find what works for you! Certain pieces may look better on different body shapes, so it never hurts to look at the customer reviews (and images, if that is an option where you like to shop). I hope that you are able to find cute and long-lasting pieces to add to your wardrobe!
