The Green Alliance is a political party of Columbia that is located in the center of the political spectrum. In Spanish, the name of the party is Alianza Verde. The Green Alliance political party is a supporter of Social Justice, electoral reform, and economic sustainability. The party was founded in 2005 and its headquarters is in Bogotá in Colombia. It had formed the electoral alliance Coalition Colombia with centrist and center left parties which include Civic Compromise to present a single presidential candidate Sergio Fajardo in the presidential election of 2018.

The Establishment of the Party

The Green Alliance political party was founded on 25 November 2005 in Bogotá. It was founded by a group of people which was headed by Carlos Ramón González Merchán and Elías Pineda.

Regional Elections of 2007

The Colombian elections of 2007 were the democratic elections in the Republic of Colombia.

On 28 October 2007, Colombian regional elections were held to elect department governors, department assembly deputies, mayors and councils, and Local Administrative Juntas. In that, the party oddly won the governorships of Cesar with their candidate Cristian Moreno Panezo and Boyacá with candidate José Roso Millán. The party also got 23 Municipal mayors.

Congressional Elections of 2010

Three independent former mayors of Bogotá which were Luis Eduardo Garzón, Antanas Mockus, and Enrique Peñalosa together formed an Alliance to select an independent candidate for the presidency. But they needed a political structure. The ad-hoc coalition combined with the Centre Option Green party which changed its name to the Green party. After this, the new party was joined by many other regional politicians.

The elections were held on 14 March 2010, in that election, Mockus was elected as the candidate for the presidency in the primary elections of the Green Party. On that same day, the party achieved five seats in the Senate. Sergio Fajardo who was the independent presidential candidate and former mayor of Medellín joined the Mockus campaign. And soon after this, he was selected as the Vice Presidential candidate of the Green Party.

Presidential Elections of 2010

The presidential elections of 2002 took place under a two-round system in which the initial vote was held on 13 May while the second poll was held three weeks later on 20 June.

On 30 May 2010, the Columbian Green Party became the second political force as a result of the first round of the presidential elections. And it has got 21% of the electorate. Then on 21 June 2010, they received 28% of the vote. But they lost the presidential election to Juan Manuel Santos who gained 69% of the votes.
