Misa Bharti Bio

Dr. Misa Bharti is an Indian politician who is a member of the Rajya Sabha from the state of Bihar. She is the daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. She had unsuccessfully contested in 2014 for the Lok Sabha seat of Patliputra and lost to RJD rebel Ram Kripal Yadav who had joined BJP. Then in 2019, she lost the election with a margin of 38000+ from the same constituency of Patliputra. Moreover, in June 2016, she was the nominee of the party for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections, and at that time she was elected unopposed along with Ram Jethalal Nani from Bihar.

Early life and Education

Misa Bharti was born in 1976. Her father and mother named Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi respectively, both were two former Chief Ministers of Bihar. Her name was given by her father in honor of the Emergency era Maintenance of Internal Security Act under which her father was jailed. She is the eldest daughter of her parents among seven daughters and two sons. Her brother Tejasvi Prasad Yadav is a leader of the opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly and her other brother Tej Pratap Yadav was a cabinet minister for Health in the government of Bihar.

In 1993 she joined the MBBS course in the institute on a TISCO quota but later she was shifted to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) citing security reasons. She topped the MBBS exam with distinction in gynecology from PMCH.

Political Career

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, she contested Patliputra on a ticket from the Rashtriya Janata Dal party. She lost that election to Ram Kripal Yadav who was the former most trusted man of Lalu Yadav. Then in 2016, she was the nominee of the party for the Rajya Sabha elections. She was elected unopposed along with Ram Jethmalani from Bihar. So, she is a Member of Parliament to Rajya Sabha since 8 July 2016. She was preceded by Pawan Kumar Varma.

 Then again in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she contested Patliputra but lost to BJP’s Ram Kripal Yadav.

Personal life

On 10 December 1999, she married Shailesh Kumar who is a computer engineer. They have three children, two daughters, and one son. Her brother-in-law Tej Pratap Singh Yadav was a member of parliament in the Indian Lok Sabha.
